How to prevent water damage in your commercial building

6/1/2020 (Permalink)

Water damage in your commercial building creates a serious panic and places your Long Beach or Lakewood business on hold until restoration and repairs are completed. For example, employees may have trouble accessing their work station or lack the tools they need to complete important work. Mold damage can even emerge if the saturated areas of the business are not replaced quickly, creating additional delays. SERVPRO of Northeast Long Beach/Lakewood recommends you consider the following tips to prevent commercial water damage.

Maintain the areas around your business.

It is important to make sure tree roots around your business do not grow unchecked. Unless closely monitored, they may develop a tendency to grow towards your pipes and create punctures. Any new trees should be planted away from known water pipes and only in approved areas.

Install A Water Detection System

A water detection system will monitor the moisture level of a room. You will receive a notification if the moisture level rises to a certain point, allowing you to catch water damage before it becomes irreversible. The initial cost could become a wise investment if it prevents costly repairs down the road.

Educate Your Employees

If you decide to employ more people and increase their responsibilities, there is greater potential for flooding as a result of human error. To help mitigate this possibility, educate new hires about ways to prevent flooding and how to respond to emergency water damage.

Sadly, no one is ever completely safe from having their home or commercial property damaged by flooding. Should you find your business experiencing emergency water damage, remember we’re available day or night to answer your call.
